Complicated, yet exquisite.
Bulgari, Kross Studio, MB&F and Ressence: the range of watch brands who’ve partnered up with the Parisian retailer Chronopassion for collaboration projects includes both large companies and independent microbrands.
There are no stylistic limits on their special creations either, unlike, say, the use of the color blue in the Bucherer Blue Editions. It’s simply impossible to know what to expect from Chronopassion’s new alliances. This applies to the Arnold & Son x Chronopassion Double Tourbillon "Landscape."
The watchmaker has added a piece of "landscape" jasper to their emblematic model for Chronopassion. Two symmetrically positioned white opal subdials show different time zones: Roman numerals at 12 o’clock for local time and Arabic numerals at 6 o’clock for the time back home.
Each subdial runs independently, adjusted with its own separate winding crown, which makes this watch one of the few that can offer the real dual-time functionality with a level of timekeeping precision down to the minute.
There are large apertures on either side of the dial at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock that reveal the two tourbillons, each of which is suspended beneath skeletonized three-dimensional bridges in polished and satin-brushed 18K white gold.
The watch is equipped with the manually wound A&S8513 movement, developed by Arnold & Son in partnership with La Joux-Perret. Twin barrels deliver a 90-hour power reserve with a balance frequency of 21,600 vph.
The modern mechanics are actually a nod to the watchmaker John Arnold’s legacy. This model was originally launched in 2014 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the inventor the brand is named after.
The case measuring 43.5 mm in diameter is made of white gold, which pairs beautifully with the dial’s sandy beige palette. The complex natural pattern of the jasper is complemented by complex hand-rendered finishing.
The transparent caseback reveals a variety of finishing techniques: from Côtes de Genève to circular graining, and from colimaçonnage on the barrels to painstakingly polished chatons. The Arnold & Son x Chronopassion Double Tourbillon "Landscape" has been created as a unique piece.
