Reine de Naples 8925 for Valentine's Day.
Reine de Naples is Breguet's favorite collection when it comes to exploring the theme of Valentine's Day, although they have occasionally turned to the Classique collection. No wonder — the series continues the legacy of the first ladies' wristwatch.
In fact, it was actually the world's first wristwatch: the model mounted on a wristlet of hair and gold thread was commissioned by the Queen of Naples in 1810, a century before soldiers would take watches out of their pockets and wear them on their wrists.
Today, no. 2639 is nowhere to be found, it's disappeared without a trace. The last time the watch resurfaced was in 1855, when it was deposited at Breguet's workshop for repairs.
Nevertheless, the Maison decided to revisit their heritage in 2002, and presented a modern version of the ladies' model in an egg-shaped case. Breguet recommends this year's new edition to the collection as a gift for the most romantic holiday of the year.
The new model for sweethearts looks more modest than its predecessors. Reine de Naples Cœur launched in 2021 had a heart-shaped hand that contracted and expanded as it traversed the dial.
In 2022, the hour and minute hands on the mother-of-pearl dial for the Classique Phase de Lune 9085 were complemented by a moon-phase display, power reserve indication, and small seconds.
Now in 2024, the watchmakers at Breguet are placing their bets on minimalism — no complications, only a time display. The minute track on the lower half of the dial is dotted with small hearts, while the dial itself is encircled by 66 rubies on the flange, which contrast with the 45 diamonds on the bezel.
Another round cabochon-cut ruby decorates the winding crown at 4 o'clock. The case for the Reine de Naples 8925 is made of white gold, and measures 24.95 in diameter, 33 mm in length, and 8.5 mm in height.
The round window on the oval caseback allows you to appreciate the filigree decoration on the platinum rotor in caliber 586/1, which has a silicon balance spring, beats at a frequency of 3 Hz, and ensures a 38-hour power reserve. As per tradition in the Reine de Naples collection, each movement has been given an individual number.
