The first minute repeater in the series with a perpetual calendar and tourbillon.
While borrowing elements from haute horlogerie for sports collections is nothing new, many people still view the practice with skepticism. But the watchmakers keep trying. Vacheron Constantin continues to celebrate the brand's 270th anniversary this year by welcoming the most complicated watch in the Overseas collection.
Christian Selmoni, Style and Heritage Director at Vacheron Constantin, explains that "[...] boundaries between watchmaking genres [are] becoming increasingly blurred today [...]." The designers have tested how compatible sports chic is with the traditional Grand Complication genre. The result is the skeletonized Overseas Grand Complication Openface minute repeater with a perpetual calendar and tourbillon.
The watch is equipped with Caliber 2755 QP, which measures just 7.9 mm in height, and the movement is housed in a titanium case that measures 44.5 mm in diameter and 13.1 mm in height. Despite the fact that the watch has a minute repeater, the engineers at Vacheron Constantin have still managed to deliver a water resistance of up to 30 meters.
The watch's sporty frame only serves to underscore the beauty of the details inside Caliber 2755 QP. It has 602 components in total, which ensure a power reserve of approximately 58 hours. The movement isn't new, and it has been seen since 2010 in members of the Traditionnelle and Les Cabinotiers collections.
Vacheron Constantin have pulled out all the stops in order to achieve the desired style: the bridges have been given a NAC finishing, wheels are rhodium-plated, while blued metal is used for the calendar counters and track around the tourbillon, which runs at 2.5 Hz.
Despite the fact that Overseas originally had a marine connection with fashionable integrated bracelets, the latest edition uses a quick-change system for the strap. The titanium bracelet with polished and satin-brushed links can be interchanged with two blue straps made of alligator skin or rubber.
