The "starring" role in the new line is played by the tourbillon.
It's not often you get to see a high-frequency balance combined with a tourbillon in the same movement — unless you're talking about Zenith of course. High balance frequencies have become part of this company's DNA. They're still actively experimenting in this area, where 36,000 vph is now only the starting point.
The manufacture marked its 150th anniversary in 2015 by building the El Primero Tourbillon — a chronograph tourbillon based on their chronograph from 1969.
The Double Tourbillon appeared in the Defy Extreme line at the end of 2022, where the chronograph's balance which can reach speeds of up to 360,000 vph was combined with two tourbillons in one watch (a one-minute tourbillon and a revolutionary five-second tourbillon).
Coinciding with the experiments in the Defy Extreme series, Zenith also launched the high-frequency Defy Skyline collection in 2022, which housed movements that scrapped the chronograph but left a direct reminder in the form of the subdial for the running 1/10th of a second hand.
The Defy Skyline series must have seemed too laid-back to the engineers at Zenith in 2024. Now the classic two-hand watch in its octagonal case with 12-sided bezel has been given a tourbillon.
Two versions of the new Zenith Defy Skyline Tourbillon were launched in one go: one in a traditional steel case with an integrated bracelet, and one in black ceramic paired with a ceramic bracelet. They come with matching rubber straps that go with the color of the dial: blue or black.
The tourbillon carriage at 6 o'clock is shaped like a four-pointed star, which is also echoed by the main motif decorating the dial. The tourbillon is the focal point where the starry sunburst pattern radiates out from.
The designers chose to rhodium-coat the indexes and hands on the blue dial edition, and opted for rose gold to plate the details on the black dial of the ceramic model.
The 41-mm case houses a new automatic El Primero 3630 movement. It's built based on the El Primero 3620 used in the Defy Skyline with accelerated small seconds. The El Primero 3630 has a 60-hour power reserve.
The addition of the popular complication isn't the only thing that sets the new engine apart from the El Primero 3620, it also boasts more refined finishing on elements.
