The brand is experimenting with the most unlikely material for watchmaking again.
At Hublot, experimenting with materials is an important part of the company’s DNA. But the appearance of concrete in the brand’s collection — a material completely unheard of in watchmaking — still looked daring.
It first happened in 2016, when the company celebrated the opening of a boutique on New York’s Fifth Avenue by creating the Classic Fusion Aerofusion Concrete Jungle with a concrete bezel. This model sparked a Concrete Jungle series with a solid Big Apple connection.
In 2020, Hublot raised the stakes in the Classic Fusion Concrete Jungle New York — a watch with a case and dial also made of concrete. For 2025, Hublot has created another watch for their New York boutique called the Big Bang Meca-10 Concrete Jungle, where the boutique concrete case houses Hublot’s movement with a ten-day power reserve.
Hublot sparked a trend for concrete on watches — how else can you explain Toledano & Chan’s concrete debut and the appearance of a watch by Holthinrichs for the Horology Club with a concrete dial and “Concrete Jungle” in its name?
But Hublot now considers concrete a regular watchmaking material and has begun amping up the technical complexity. The Big Bang Meca-10 Concrete Jungle uses concrete as the frame for the openworked Meca-10 movement that debuted back in 2016, when the caliber appeared in titanium and ceramic case editions.
Despite the choice of concrete as the material, the case still measures 44 mm × 15.3 mm. Titanium was chosen as the companion for concrete. It’s used for the six screws on the bezel and the caseback. The case is water resistant up to 50 meters. The manually wound HUB1201 movement competes with the case for the owner’s attention.
The power reserve indication can be found at 6 o’clock, while the spot at 9 o’clock has been reserved for the small seconds. The effort to show how the movement is constructed is perfectly understandable: the Meca-10 has an interesting architecture, where the conventional mainplate is replaced by a ring-shaped base and long bridges.
The Big Bang Meca-10 Concrete Jungle is worn on a gray fabric strap, secured by Velcro. If you want to change the strap, it can be swapped for a black rubber alternative that the watch comes with.
