A classic complication viewed from a new angle.
In 2020, the brand Cyrus Genève marked its first decade by expanding the Klepcys collection with a new GMT Retrograde. By that time, the brand already boasted an unconventional model in its line which delighted fans of watchmaking: Klepcys Vertical Tourbillon with its tourbillon cage in the center of the dial set on a vertical axis at a 90° angle.
The same approach was essentially taken to the Klepcys GMT Retrograde, which strove to show the famous complication from a new angle. This time round, the second time zone has been rethought.
The movement controlling the Retrograde GMT indication was created by Jean-François Mojon, the Chronode founder and Technical Director at Cyrus Genève who was awarded the Best Watchmaker Prize at Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) in 2010.
Mojon is also the name behind Legacy Machine №1 and №2 movements developed for MB&F, Hermès Arceau L’heure de la lune, Czapek Quai des Bergues, Jordi Swiss Icon and Opus X by Harry Winston.
Cyrus Genève's first manufacture movement made three years ago is the same one housed in the new Klepcys GMT versions, presented at Watches&Wonders in Geneva. A GMT indication on a 24-hour scale with a retrograde hand appears on the dials of the Klepcys GMT Ocean Blue and Klepcys GMT Palm Green models.
The new palette for the bridges visible on the dial side will appeal to those already familiar with Mojon's movement. Their bright tones have been achieved using an ALD coating (atomic layer deposition).
One interesting detail is that the oscillating weight has been rendered the same color as the movement's dial-side details. It allows enough energy to be stored for 55 hours of work. Adjustments are made easier by two crowns.
One is used for setting the time and winding while the other is for adjusting readings for the second time zone. This year's two model versions have been introduced in 42-mm cushion-shaped cases which use a titanium bracelet for the first time. But the option is also available to swap the bracelet for a gray Cordura strap with a titanium clasp.
