From date to complete calendar.

The Bathyscaphe series appeared in the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms collection just three years after the first diver's Fifty Fathoms premiered, which saw professional diving watches shift towards models for everyday wear.

So Blancpain laid the foundations for an office diver's style in a series which the brand still actively develops today. What made the first Bathyscaphe different from its pro predecessor was its case size (from the 42-mm Fifty Fathoms, which was seen as imposing at the time, to a respectable 37 mm) and the addition of a date aperture.

The watchmaker uses the modern Bathyscaphe as a platform for experimenting with dive-watch DNA: the company adds multiple functions to the established base and introduces surprising materials for authentic dive watches to this line.

Blancpain seems to be banking on developing two models this year: the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet Phases de Lune and the Bathyscaphe Chronographe Flyback.

Ceramic versions have already appeared (a ceramic case worn on a ceramic bracelet), and now the watches have been given a full-gold look. Both the chronograph and the calendar watch were launched in red-gold cases two years ago, but back then they were fastened on NATO straps.

Now the gold case has a matching gold bracelet with links satin-brushed by hand. The watches sport tried-and-tested deep blue dials. By the way, the ceramic watches offered more variety, with blue, green and gray dial options.

The cases measure 43 mm in diameter and provide a typical diver's level of water resistance: up to 300 meters. The chronograph is equipped with the high-frequency F385 caliber that debuted ten years ago.

It runs at 36,000 vph and has a column wheel, vertical clutch, and a 50-hour power reserve. The calendar watch houses an automatic 6654P movement with a 72-hour power reserve and a safety system for the calendar mechanism.
