Collaborations are certainly trending today, but you still rarely see four names in one watch model.
The chronograph that stands out among other examples of successful partnerships between brands from different fields is the RUF x Bamford x Highsnobiety – Tag Heuer Carrera. The number of partners isn't the only thing that sets this watch apart.
There are also clear similarities shared by the collaborating members. They don't settle for "good" or even "very good" — they take the best as the starting point when looking to create something outstanding. That's the approach taken to customizing watches at Bamford.
The company started with Rolex and gradually broadened its horizons, becoming a partner of the LVMH Watches Division in 2017 to transform the group's watches. But they didn't stop at that. For instance, Bamford recently completed its second project with G-Shock, and people were lining up for their watches.
It may not have been as monumental as Omega x Swatch, but impressive nonetheless. The Bavarian owned car manufacturer RUF Automobile takes the same approach, the only difference is that they apply it to perfecting Porsche 911 sports cars. The yellow details on the dial of the special Tag Heuer Carrera are a nod of respect to a legend in the range of cars by RUF.
The engineers created the bright yellow RUF CTR nicknamed "Yellow Bird" in 1987 with a twin-turbo 469 horsepower engine. It became known as the fastest production car in its day, generating a top speed of 342 km/h. RUF sports cars tend to use a racing green colorway more often.
The chronograph in a 42-mm steel case was created together with the German online platform Highsnobiety. It's primarily a fashion and media outlet that focuses on items which tread a fine line between luxury and streetwear. The watch is equipped with the automatic Caliber Heuer 02, which runs at a frequency of 28,000 vph and guarantees an 80-hour power reserve.
Limited to a series of 100 pieces, the watch is sold with two straps: green Saffiano Verde leather and green Correa Nato with the RUF logo. The packaging has also been given due attention: the presentation box is made of green frosted transparent acrylic.
