Luxury smoked salmon.
Gray for the perpetual calendar, blue for the flyback chronograph, black for the tourbillon and salmon for the center seconds. H. Moser & Cie. have settled on the palette for their Steamliner collection.
The Streamliner Center Seconds Smoked Salmon with a three-hand time display was unveiled to the public after a photo was posted on Instagram of the company's CEO Edouard Meylan fully kitted out in fishing gear with an intriguing caption about final preparations.
The comments section quickly filled up with guesses about a certain fishy connection with a new model. But it couldn't be a plain old salmon dial at H. Moser & Cie., it would have to be "smoked" salmon.
Meylan added a description in the press release to explain that this particular species only eats crustaceans pre-digested by pink flamingos. He adds that the fish was massaged by specialists using oil infused with aromatic Himalayan herbs and then smoked using a secret recipe with Scottish whiskey.
The rich description of the selected shade and source of inspiration is another example of Meylan's witty sense of humor. He’s previously poked fun at many products by other brands with marketing parodies from Make Swiss-Made Great Again to an eco Nature Watch made of grass.
The detailed description of the fish and its exclusivity is also reminiscent of Swatch's recent marketing ploy, where each second hand for their latest MoonSwatch Mission to the Moon was made under February's full moon.
The new watch by H. Moser & Cie. is interesting enough in and of itself without the unconventional intro. Two techniques have been used to finish the dial: fumé (gradual transition of color towards the edge) and griffé (vertically brushed finish).
There are no numerals or signatures to distract from the new tone. Unlike the previous Streamliner Center Seconds Matrix Green, even the brand's name is invisible on this watch with the logo in clear lacquer.
Apart from the unusual color, the Streamliner Center Seconds Smoked Salmon is a standard member of the Streamliner collection inspired by the rounded silhouettes of high-speed trains from the 1920s and 1930s.
The steel case measures 40 mm in diameter and 12.1 mm in height including the sapphire crystal, and it's water resistant up to 120 m. It houses the automatic HMC 200 caliber with a three-day power reserve.
