Brands at the virtual LVMH Watch Week brought us a fair share of surprises, one of which was an updated version of the Hublot MP-11.
Making his way through the production facility at the manufacture in Nyon, Hublot CEO Ricardo Guadalupe presented the first watch for the LVMH Watch Week — a new version of the celebrated MP-11 model. Its manufacture movement with an impressive 14-day power reserve has been housed in a Magic Gold case.
The novelty can be viewed as a synthesis combining the company's achievements from different fields, all embodied in one example: from the design of movements to the creation of unique materials and alloys.
Of course, the MP-11 can't compete with the MP-05 LaFerrari. It's also got fewer in-line mainspring barrels — not 11, but "only" 7. Similar to earlier versions, the seven barrels are lined up in a series on the lower half of the dial, alongside the cylindrical power reserve indicator.
And the manually wound caliber HUB9011 with its two-week power reserve never ceases to amaze! There's 270 parts under the hood in the MP-11 engine, which is 10.92 mm thick despite its visual volume. Accordingly, it fits into a 45 mm case which is 14.44 mm thick.
Before the movement was enclosed in its Magic Gold case in 2021, it had already been presented in a carbon case, with the King Gold alloy and a carbon bezel, the scarlet ceramic Red Magic case, and the transparent green SAXEM case (material combining aluminum oxide with a range of rare-earth elements).
Hublot has proclaimed this new alloy revolutionary, as the first ever version of scratch-resistant 18-carat gold. In keeping with tradition, Hublot decided to pair the case made of precious materials with a rubber strap. The release of the Big Bang MP-11 14-Day Power Reserve Magic Gold has been limited to 50 pieces.
