A new winding system in the Tourbillon Weight Energy System.

In 2011, the first member of the Manufacture Pieces (MP) collection left the manufacture in Nyon. Since then, they've launched one or two highly complicated novelties on an annual basis. Intentionally or unintentionally, Hublot has made winding, or rather not needing to wind movements for long periods of time, one of the key highlights in their Manufacture Pieces.

It all started with the MP-01 and its a 10-day power reserve. The series has since welcomed watches with a fortnight's worth of power reserve, and a 50-day power reserve. Now the time has come to welcome the MP-10 Tourbillon Weight Energy System.

This piece has a perfectly standard power reserve of two days, but the winding system itself has been completely rethought. The result of five years of research and development is foregrounded on the dial side.

Energy is accumulated by two white-gold linear weights on either side of the movement, which slide up and down nonstop to provide bidirectional winding for the movement (patent-pending). These weights gain momentum from wrist movements, and slide along rails equipped with a system of shock absorbers.

This cutting-edge model has also done away with the usual hands, yet reading the time remains intuitive and familiar: all you need to do is glance from top to bottom. Hours and minutes are measured by two vertical built-in rollers. Beneath them on the lower part of the dial is where you can find the aluminum tourbillon cage with the seconds indicated on a track directly on the tourbillon cage.

Hublot has employed a tried-and-tested trick for the tourbillon — the complication is tilted at a 35-degree angle. A two-tone disk in red and green appears in the center of the dial, which allows you to keep an eye on how much power the movement has left.

The sapphire crystal on the dial side combines inclined planes on three axes, revealing a view of the movement from all sides. Caliber HUB9013 comprises 592 components, where the time-setting mechanism can be found on the watch's caseback, while the winding crown is positioned at 12 o'clock.

The MP-10 Tourbillon Weight Energy System has been launched in a titanium case measuring 54.1 mm × 41.5 mm × 22.4 mm. Availability is limited to 50 pieces.
