Friedrich III Remontoir Sincere Platinum Jubilee Edition with a ceramic dial.
The Saxon company Lang & Heyne has joined the ranks of watchmakers who are celebrating the anniversary of the Singapore-based chain SHH. They've made a predictable gift — a limited edition created especially for the Asian retailer.
This is already the third collaboration between Lang & Heyne and SHH, but the new watch definitely stands out from the previous Georg SHH Editions.
The only similarities with the new Friedrich III Remontoir Sincere Platinum Jubilee Edition can be seen on the dial: the manufacture which usually relies on silver has created a ceramic dial for SHH with a sandblasted royal blue silver center. The Georg SHH Editions had the opposite configuration: a ceramic center on a royal blue or Burgundy silver background.
But the novelty's most interesting parts are inside the case. The watch is equipped with a manually wound Caliber VI-I movement with a "remontoire d'égalité" constant-force device — a regulator that delivers a uniform energy supply from the mainspring to the escape wheel.
This guarantees accurate timekeeping, regardless of how much power is left, and it's also responsible for the jump made by the dead-beat seconds (this indication can be found at 6 o'clock). The movement's finishing deserves to be highlighted, which places this watch in the league of models that particularly avid fans of watchmaking mechanics dream of wearing upside-down.
Firstly, the Saxon watchmakers have taken care to provide visual access to the main mechanisms in their caliber, including the constant-force device. And secondly, the movement's components are covered with an attractive frosted finish, and some are decorated with special engraving.
Unlike the rectangular Georg, the movement is housed in a round case made of white gold. The case measures 39.2 mm × 10.7 mm. It's paired with an alligator-leather strap secured on Lang & Heyne's three signature lugs.
Availability of the Friedrich III Remontoir Sincere Platinum Jubilee Edition is limited to just seven pieces with the movement engraved "One of 7". For comparison, the previous Georg SHH Edition was launched as a "big" 12-piece series. Seven is a very small number even for Lang & Heyne, who have an annual output of 100-150 watches.
