The house that Maximilian Büsser built.
Maximilian Büsser's new project may remind some people of a futuristic spaceship, or hobbit-hole dwellings, while others may think it looks like one of those fidget spinner toys that were all the rage six years ago, only with four lobes instead of three.
The actual creator of the MB&F Horological Machine 11 Architect stands by the architectural parallels, who compares the bulging forms around the center to four "rooms" with "corridors" between them.
However, the comparison with spinners is still totally justifiable. The entire construction rotates so you can turn any "room" or "corridor" towards you.
This is more than just a convenient feature to peer inside every window. Each 45° turn of this timekeeping spinner will keep the watch running for another 72 minutes. And ten full rotations is enough to provide the maximum power reserve of 96 hours.
The housemates sharing this four-bed suite are the hours and minutes, power reserve indication, a crown for adjusting the time, and a surprising thermometer that can measure a temperature range from -20 to +60 °C (0-140 °F).
The latter is more of a must-have for outdoor activities, although Büsser must believe a thermostat is an essential in every home.
No electronics are used here — the watch is equipped with a mechanical system for measuring temperature that uses bi-metallic strips, available with a scale in either Celsius or Fahrenheit.
Orbs on rods have been used at MB&F instead of an hour scale. The decorative big bright polished orb "crowns" are made of aluminum to indicate the hours for each quarter, with smaller dark polished orbs made of titanium used for the rest.
The power reserve indication has five orbs which increase in diameter clockwise towards the largest orb made of polished aluminum. When the watch is fully wound, the hand points to the largest one, which measures 2.4 mm in diameter.
The walls of Büsser's timekeeping house are made of polished Grade 5 titanium. The central atrium is where the flying tourbillon can be found.
Two versions of the MB&F HM11 Architect are available, each limited to 25 pieces: a blue-dial edition and a red-gold one treated with PVD on the bridges.
