Pièce unique in rose gold.
The Biver brand has big news this spring. The company founded by Jean-Claude Biver, who resurrected Blancpain and set the pace for LVMH's development, announced the opening of their first boutique. On March 15, the first Biver Lounge opened in Hong Kong's Upper House Hotel.
It's an interesting decision when you consider how rare the brand's models are. The latest example is the debut of Biver's new Carillon Tourbillon "Desert Rose" ahead of Watches and Wonders.
This is the new look of the company's most complicated watch that the brand began its journey with. The model combines a minute repeater and a tourbillon, and the novelty also pairs these prestigious complications with precious stones.
A version of the Carillon Tourbillon has already been released with a mother-of-pearl dial and baguette-cut diamond indexes in a titanium case. The Desert Rose raises the bar: its case measuring 42 mm in diameter and 13.7 mm in height is made of rose gold, and the diamonds have been replaced with pink rubies. The price has gone up from CHF 560,000 to CHF 670,000.
The high price can be partially explained by the fact that the watch is a one-of-a-kind. By the way, there has already been a Carillon Tourbillon in rose gold too, only its dial was made of obsidian. A mother-of-pearl dial is nothing new in the world of watchmaking, but Biver makes you see this material in a new light.
The mother-of-pearl center is engraved with guilloché on the Carillon Tourbillon Desert Rose, which gives it more volume and creates a pattern that radiates out from the tourbillon at 6 o'clock. The decoration based on inversely carved pyramids has already been given its own name by collectors, who have dubbed it the "Biver Cut".
The watch is powered by a JCB-001-B movement made with Cercle des Horlogers in their Les Hauts-Geneveys workshop, founded by Nicolas Herren and Alain Schiesser. Their clients include watch brands like Jacob & Co., Armin Strom, Louis Vuitton, Trilobe, and Speake Marin.
The caliber developed for Biver provides a 72-hour power reserve generated by its micro-rotor. The finishing on the bridges and polished gongs can be admired thanks to the watch's transparent caseback.
