New movements from the watchmakers in Glashütte in the spirit of revolutionary minimalism.

It's worth taking a closer look at the two innovative movements that equip the new neomatik watches to understand what the watchmakers from Glashütte are so proud of: the DUW 3001 with no date and DUW 6101 with a date mechanism.

The use of these automatic movements has allowed the German engineers to combine the incompatible: German mechanics with an attractive price, and Bauhaus style with finishing in the spirit of the historic Saxon manufacture. Let's start with the design.

Many German brands including Stowa, Junghans, MeisterSinger and Dufa can't resist the temptation of playing with key features from Dessau's Bauhaus school of design. The minimalistic design was revolutionary when the Bauhaus School was founded by Walter Gropius, and it's also what sets the NOMOS Glashütte models apart.

It can be seen on both the dial and the round watch case. The watchmaker's movements support this minimalist style. The DUW 3001 measures just 3.2 mm in height and 28.8 mm in diameter, while the DUW 6101 is 3.6 mm and 35.2 mm in diameter.

The NOMOS program disk made it possible for the watchmakers to achieve these impressive case specs for a movement with a date mechanism. The engineers are particularly pleased with the unparalleled fusion of refinement and precision achieved in the DUW 3001.

The efficiency of the gear train was increased to 94.2%, with energy loss due to friction reduced from the typical 20% to just 5.8%. In the Tangente neomatik 41 Update where NOMOS Glashütte now uses neomatik technology, the date is highlighted by colored dashes on either side which move under the slots around the edge of the dial.

This date display technology is patented by NOMOS Glashütte. The date can be set both forwards and backwards. The winding crown has three positions: manual winding, date setting and time setting. The dial's modern look is balanced with the movement's traditional finishing, which can be viewed through the watch's transparent caseback. The watch has been polished with circular engraving by hand.
