A watch and a boat united by a shared idea.

The Submersible S BRABUS Black Ops Edition (PAM01240) released in September last year was the first product of Panerai's partnership with Brabus which has yielded a series of models.

Back then, Panerai's CEO Jean-Marc Pontroué promised that the fruit of their joint labor would not only unite the vision for design from the two brands but would also be the product of a technological and conceptual synergy between Panerai and BRABUS.

At this year's Palma International Boat Show, the companies unveiled two novelties with a common idea: BRABUS Shadow 900 Deep Blue and Panerai Submersible S Brabus Blue Shadow Edition (PAM01241).

The former is a speedboat that has a four-stroke 4.6-liter racing engine called Mercury Racing 450R with 900 horsepower which can easily reach cruising speeds of over 60 knots. The latter is a Submersible S watch, where "S" stands for "skeletonized" to describe the openworked caliber P.4001/S.

The movement which Panerai spent three years working on is a skeletonized version based on the P.4000 caliber and uses Panerai's patented polarized date display. It serves its purpose without obscuring the view of the movement's components.

Opposite the date display is the small seconds subdial at 9 o'clock, which integrates an AM/PM indicator. Two barrels guarantee three days’ worth of power reserve. The limit set for the release is 200 pieces.

The watch's engine isn't the only thing that makes the model interesting, the material used for its 47 mm case is also worth a mention. The main "cushion" is made of titanium using 3D-printing technology and direct metal laser sintering (DMLS).

Metallic powder is fed into a chamber where it is evened out into a layer and fused onto the precious layer using a powerful laser of around 200 W. The result is a light case with an unconventional texture. The titanium case is complemented by a standout Carbotech bezel.

This is a material based on carbon fiber which Panerai has been using since 2015 when it debuted the model Luminor Submersible 1950 Carbotech. The durable and light composite material is created by compressing carbon-fiber sheets together with the thermoplastic polymer PEEK to achieve a unique surface every time.

Panerai Submersible S BRABUS Blue Shadow Edition is a watch dedicated to a speedboat, so it goes without saying that the timepiece is suitable for active wear on the water and under the water.

The case is water-resistant to ~300 m and comes with two straps to switch up the model's vibe: a bi-material option combining rubber and leather for everyday wear and a full rubber one suitable for active leisure.
