A two-tone case has now appeared in the collection.
The champions of minimalism at Parmigiani Fleurier have managed to create variety within very strict boundaries. In the past, they've sought to achieve perfect harmony by resizing elements in the pattern on the dial or by changing the width of knurls on the bezel.
These watchmakers can rightly be described as great masters of tiny details. Now they've taken a significant leap by smashing the monopoly of monochrome cases in the Tonda PF collection. The model responsible for taking this step is the Tonda PF Automatic in a 36-mm case made of steel and rose gold.
There has actually been a noticeable increase in the number of two-tone case models launched over the past decades. According to Swiss customs data, 867 thousand watches in cases made of two types of metal were exported in 2020, and this figure increased to 1.2 million in 2022. Now the Tonda PF Automatic will help boost these stats.
The watchmaker has taken a very delicate approach to integrating rose gold into the case: this was the material used for the characteristic knurls on the bezel, the winding crown, and bracelet links that taper exquisitely from the case towards the clasp.
The second novelty in the 36-mm Tonda PF series has a composition that's more typical of the collection, although not without its own interesting details.
This watch in a rose-gold case has a dial in a tone referred to as a ruby dial at Parmigiani Fleurier, decorated with Grain d'Orge guilloché. It was awarded the Ladies' Watch prize at last year's Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève.
The novelty has a compressed case height of 8.6 mm, 0.8 mm leaner than the 40-mm Tonda PF (the larger model uses a PF703 movement with a platinum micro-rotor and has a date aperture at 6 o'clock).
The 36-mm watch houses an automatic manufacture PF770 movement with a rose-gold rotor, which generates enough energy to keep the watch going for 60 hours. The movement comprises 179 components and measures 3.9 mm in height.
