Dripping paint as a symbol of infinity.
“There was a reviewer a while back who wrote that my pictures didn't have any beginning or any end. He didn’t mean it as a compliment, but it was," said the American painter Jackson Pollock.
Famous for creating his dripping technique, work by Jack the Dripper, as he was dubbed in Time magazine, is the source of inspiration for a new model by Perrelet. At the end of the day, time doesn't have a beginning or an end either, like the work of this major figure in the abstract expressionism movement.
Pollock's work was embedded in the New York art scene, and Perrelet created their paint-splashed Turbine Splash for the brand's debut at the American Windup Watch Fair event, which took place a little further afield in Chicago.
Multicolored drops of paint cover the watch's lower dial beneath Perrelet's signature rotating Turbine with twelve blades propelled by wrist movements. Rotation speed will determine how visible the painting on the lower dial is.
The Turbine patented by the company in 2009 proved to be a surprisingly versatile option for the most diverse array of creative ideas.
The blades made of black anodized aluminum with five tungsten counterweights over the dial can cover and uncover any work of art with the slightest wrist movement: from playing cards to Japanese erotic hentai animations. In this case — a colorful Pollock-style painting.
The brightness of the drops is accentuated by the black case measuring 44 mm in diameter. Considering its imposing case size, it weighs hardly anything thanks to the use of polycarbonate and forged carbon fiber as case materials.
Not only do these modern materials ensure lightness, they're also resistant to impact, scratches, and chemicals. These case materials are paired with a black PVD-coated steel bezel.
The outlines of the baton indexes are highlighted in different colors — a similar approach can be seen on the Perrelet Turbine Rainbow model. The color transition on the Perrelet Turbine Rainbow was manifested in multicolored Arabic numerals.
By the way, that watch was also inspired by Pollock's art, only the drops on the lower dial were smaller. The Turbine Splash is equipped with an automatic P-331-MH movement, which has been certified by the COSC and Chronofiable.
