The Piaget Polo 79 model was awarded the Iconic Watch Prize at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) just a few days ago in a year when Piaget is marking the brand's 150th anniversary. This is also the year that another icon, the Black Tie model, received permission to bear the name of its most famous fan, Andy Warhol.

Piaget relaunched the BlackTie model in 2014, when the watchmaker revived it for the Biennale des Antiquaires in Paris. A number of Black Tie reincarnations have since appeared. Now the company has officially renamed it the Andy Warhol Watch, thanks to a licensed collaboration with the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.

The famous artist and partygoer, who has attended Piaget Society events in New York and Palm Beach, is known to have owned no less than seven Piaget models, including a Black Tie model. Four of those models already belong to Piaget's Private Collection, and now anyone who wants to can purchase an Andy Warhol Watch.

The first fruit of the Warhol collection is the Andy Warhol Clou de Paris watch. As its name suggests, the case measuring 45 mm × 43 mm is decorated with the Clous de Paris pattern, which runs along the periphery of the bezel on the watch's white-gold case. The case frames a blue meteorite dial in the unveil, but clients have ten stone dials to choose from — another nod to 1970s watch style.

The watch is equipped with a manufacture 501P1 movement. This modern automatic movement replaces the revolutionary Beta 21 quartz movement born in the laboratory of the CEH (Centre Electronique Horloger), which was created to develop electronic wristwatches for 20 Swiss brands.

The 501P1 showcases a different branch of development for Piaget movements: ultra-thin calibers. It's an evolution of the automatic caliber 500P, which itself was developed based on the hand-wound 430P. Caliber 501P1 with 23 jewels measures just 3.63 mm in height. The movement runs at a frequency of 28,800 vph and has a 40-hour power reserve.
