Novelties in Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team colors with Miami Pink.
Just in time for the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, the Schaffhausen-based watch brand presented a new version of last year's hit: Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team.
The most striking feature of the 2022 chronograph in titanium was its use of the recognizable aquamarine "Petronas Green" tone from the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 livery on the watch's aviator-style black dial.
All the hands, numerals and markers went aquamarine — the color used by Mercedes-AMG to represent their title partner, the energy group Petronas. And now it's migrated onto the dial of a piece by the team's timekeeping partner.
One year on, this year's Ref. IW388114 has swapped the leather strap with aquamarine stitching for one made of pink rubber. This bright new tone is known as Miami Pink. They still couldn't help keeping some aquamarin: the model comes with a second rubber strap in Petronas Green.
They can be exchanged quickly thanks to the EasX-CHANGE system. It's impossible to get hold of the pink strap separately without purchasing Ref. IW388114. Actually, it's not so easy to purchase it in the collector's bundle with the green strap either: the bundle will be sold for a limited time in the brand's Miami boutique and via the company's website.
Members of the team will also receive their own pieces. The new Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team is the perfect match for the pink accents on gloves and shoes worn by George Russell and seven-time world champion and self-confessed fashionista Lewis Hamilton.
The watchmaker decided not to use a new engine in Ref. IW388114. Caliber 69385 can be seen through the clear caseback. It’s made by the ValFleurier movement manufacturer owned by Richemont and was welcomed to IWC’s collection in 2021. Back then, it arrived to replace the Valjoux 7750 housed in previous Pilot’s Watch Chronograph editions.
The automatic column-wheel chronograph movement consisting of 242 components ensures a 46-hour power reserve. The titanium case for the IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team measures 41 mm in diameter and 14.5 mm in height.
