The watchmaker's partnership with Lamborghini continues.
Towards the end of last year, Roger Dubuis presented another model in partnership with Lamborghini. The watchmaker has been replicating the latest supercar parts in watch movements and case shapes since 2017.
Watchmakers at the Genevan manufacture have been keeping pace with the engineers at Lamborghini by celebrating all the main premieres to roll out of Lamborghini's production site in Bologna. It all began with inspiration drawn from Lamborghini Aventador S, continuing with Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2, and now today's latest Huracán Sterrato.
The Excalibur Spider Huracán Sterrato Monobalancier (MB) debuted at the end of last year right after the supercar was unveiled. The first version of the watch was released in an orange and red camo colorway.
This year, a version has appeared with bright blue parts. Designer bells and whistles aren't the only elements Roger Dubuis shares with Lamborghini, who also share technologies. The watch case measuring 45 mm in diameter is made of carbon, which the watchmaking industry has adopted from the automotive industry on a grand scale.
The sapphire crystal on the caseback is stamped with the Excalibur Huracán Sterrato logo, while the rotor is shaped like a Lamborghini wheel rim. And while there may not be any direct references on the dial side, the sports-car connection is unmistakable.
The architecture of the RD630 movement is reminiscent of a car engine, where a framework is formed by two bright bars on the dial resembling the vehicle's roof racks. The movement's designers borrowed extensively from the shape of the car's hexagonal air intakes (the same hexagons can be found in the design of the car’s interior).
The twin barrels between 5 o'clock and 7 o'clock allow enough energy to be stored to keep the watch running for 60 hours. The case is paired with a rubber strap featuring a camo pattern colorway with gray, light blue and deep blue elements. A blue lacquered ring is also built into the winding crown.
The Excalibur Spider Huracán Sterrato Monobalancier (MB) priced at USD 70,000 is the perfect wristwear for owners of the USD 270,000 sports car, but can also be purchased as a stand-alone accessory. But there won't be enough of these watches to go around for all Lambo owners either: availability of the car is limited to 1499 units, but there are only 28 watches.
