A total of just 8 anniversary models in the color white.
The collection Roger Dubuis created in partnership with the tire manufacturer Pirelli has welcomed a new mode: the Excalibur Spider Pirelli Monotourbillon (MT). The limited edition of just 8 pieces is the first white watch in the partner series.
The watch's creators say this particular shade was chosen to stand out and highlight the anniversary model. The impressive watch is decorated with a special Pirelli 150th anniversary logo. The company's first products included transmission belts and valves for industrial machinery, as the car had yet to be invented way back in 1872.
The anniversary logo was unveiled last year alongside the famous Pirelli calendar for the year 2022, while the watch itself was launched ahead of the 2022 Singapore Grand Prix F1 race. The location certainly wasn't chosen at random: Pirelli is now the sole supplier of tires for Formula 1 races.
Tires also have a role to play in the watch. Partner Roger Dubuis uses inserts made of Pirelli tires for the straps in their collection. Roger Dubuis isn't alone here. Just need to think of Bamford's watches with Michelin, who use recycled tires for their straps, or watches from Zenith's collection dedicated to Extreme E, which use tires and tarpaulin from last season's races.
In any case, the Excalibur Spider Pirelli Monotourbillon (MT) stands out. Superbiwinova technology (a vulcanization process to add SuperLuminova) makes the anniversary logo integrated into the strap glow in the dark.
The watchmaker's logo, bezel and hour markers glow too. The watch comes with three additional straps with logos in Oro, Silver, and Red. The strap can be changed in the blink of an eye thanks to the Quick Release System. It's interesting that the bezel and crown are also interchangeable.
The novelty's 45-mm case is made of Mineral Composite Fiber (MCF). This is an innovative material owned exclusively by Roger Dubuis, where a process known as Sheet Molding Compound (SMC) allows silica to be engineered to produce MCF.
This material's list of advantages includes its stunningly light weight (13% lighter than SMC carbon). The watch is equipped with the manually wound RD508SQ movement, a Monotourbillon at 7 o'clock and a power reserve indication reminiscent of a car's fuel gauge.
