TAG Heuer returns one of their most coveted models to their line.

This is a model that has been absent from the catalog but still on everyone's mind. The watch is so rare that less than 20 pieces have resurfaced on the market in recent years. The model has been reissued in a number of collaborations with watch news outlets, but without any exact repeats of the historic original.

We're talking about the Ref. 7754 Heuer Skipper, aka the "Skipperera" — a watch the company Heuer launched in 1968 to celebrate yachtsman Emil Mosbacher winning the America's Cup race.

Mosbacher sailed the 12-meter class Intrepid to victory. Not only did this yacht stand out from competitor's vessels for its exceptional technical features, the color of its mint-green deck also made it stand out.

The only exceptions were two Skipper-inspired models launched for HODINKEE and Revolution: the TAG Heuer Limited Edition Carrera Skipper for HODINKEE in 2017 and TAG Heuer x The Rake & Revolution Carrera Chronograph "Blue Dreamer" in 2018.

This was also the shade used on the Heuer Skipper watch together with green and orange. These bright accents on the regatta countdown indicator appeared against a blue dial framed by the Carrera's 36-mm case. Thanks to its rarity and recognizable appearance, the model became real collector's bait. However, TAG Heuer wasn't to be seen again to it for a long time.

This year as Carrera marks its 60th anniversary, the watchmakers at TAG Heuer have finally decided to reissue the famous 1960s model. The new TAG Heuer Carrera Skipper uses two counters with the same colorway seen on the historic model.

The tricolor 15-minute countdown regatta timer has been placed beside a 12-hour chronograph counter. Another important difference that sets the novelty apart is the date aperture which has appeared at 6 o'clock.

The yachting chronograph uses the TAG Heuer Carrera "Glassbox" design unveiled this year, which uses bezel-less glass that effectively flows into the case. Its steel case has increased in size to 39 mm. The water resistance of the case won't let sailors down at 100 m.

The novelty has been equipped with the automatic TAG Heuer TH20-06 movement with a balance frequency of 28,800 vph and a serious 80-hour power reserve.
