Race car driver Lewis Hamilton develops another watch design for the IWC manufacture.
Lewis Hamilton may not have managed to turn his name into an exclusive watch trademark, whose company 44IP lost a courtroom showdown with the Hamilton watches brand, but the race car driver's image is inextricably linked with his extensive watch collection.
And of course, Hamilton has a link with the brand IWC who he represents as a brand ambassador. Not only does Hamilton have a string of impressive IWC appearances to his name, even occasionally sporting watches on both wrists like Nick Hayek, IWC and Hamilton have also teamed up on watch projects.
Their first collab on the Ingenieur Chronograph Edition Lewis Hamilton in 2014 may have had clear references to motorsport with a carbon-fiber dial, titanium case, and the collection's first titanium bracelet, but subsequent projects moved away from this sporty theme.
The "Lewis Hamilton" Big Pilot's Watch Perpetual Calendar Edition appeared in 2019, and now the company has introduced the Portugieser Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronograph Lewis Hamilton. The last two collaborative models flaunt vivid tones, introducing new materials and colors.
The perpetual calendar Pilot's Watch married a Burgundy dial with a case made of black ceramic, while this year's chronograph with a retrograde date display combines a teal dial with a platinum case.
There’s already been a Portugieser Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronograph in platinum: the special model for the Laureus Charity Night auction released in 2017. Back then, the watch had a blue dial — the charity's signature color. Another blue dial was used for the Boutique Edition in 2020, but it was paired with Armor Gold.
Now there's a new exclusive blend by Lewis Hamilton: platinum, teal, the race car driver's logo on the dial, and diamond hour markers. Another update can be seen around the gold rotor of caliber 89900, which is now accompanied by more gold-plated components. T
he movement with its 68-hour power reserve debuted in the Da Vinci model 2017. At the time, it was the first to control a tourbillon combined with a retrograde date display and a counter merging the chronograph's hours and minutes.
