The First TAG Heuer and Porsche Watch

TAG Heuer and Porsche produced the first watch together. TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph is of course a watch inspired by racing.

The watch brand's designers pulled off the same stunt in the new watch as they did with the 2000 Formula 1 x Indy 500. The dial of the Indy 500 mirrored the Indianapolis racetrack nicknamed "the Brickyard". Of course, there's no brick pattern celebrating the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway on the new watch created with Porsche, but the dial also has an asphalt effect.

Carrera is a common name shared by Porsche racing cars and TAG Heuer's iconic chronographs. Both brands drew inspiration from the Carrera Panamericana open-road racing event. The first Porsche Carrera models appeared in the mid-1950s. TAG Heuer caught up and began making Carrera watches a little later in 1963.

What's interesting is that the races had already been called off by that time TAG Heuer began making Carrera watches (the races were held from 1950 to 1954), but the name and its connection with world of high-speed motor racing has lived on through the decades.  TAG Heuer and Porsche also found themselves together on the track when "Le Mans" was being filmed. It starred Steve McQueen wearing a square-shaped Heuer Monaco chronograph behind the wheel of a Porsche 917.

In 2010, TAG Heuer actually launched a special red and black rally striped version of the Monaco in a limited edition of 55 pieces for the Porsche Club of America. So in a sense, the brands have already collaborated to create watches. Let's not forget the Porsche-TAG Formula 1 engine created for the McLaren team, or the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team.

Now they've finally made their first real collaboration watch! The TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph is rendered in the Porsche colors with the brand's inscription. A ceramic bezel with a tachymeter scale and the Porsche lettering in red complements the steel case, which is 44 mm in diameter.

The readings are monitored by the Heuer 02 manufacture movement with an 80-hour power reserve. Its rotor mirrors the outline of a Porsche steering wheel. The watch comes with a stainless steel bracelet as well as a black leather strap with stitching that resembles the stitched leather seats inside a Porsche 911.
