The first Worldtimer in the deep-sea collection!
Omega's deepest diving collection marks its 20th anniversary this year. The Seamaster Planet Ocean's year got off to a lively start: the series has welcomed its first Worldtimer.
Up until now, the demands of travelers who like to keep everything under control were met by pieces in the Aqua Terra collection (this series was given the useful Worldtimer complication back in 2017 when it marked its 15th anniversary).
But these watches were only water-resistant up to 150 meters, which clearly wouldn't be enough for Planet Ocean. This family of watches take 600 m as the starting point, and they go up to 6000 m. So the two new Seamaster Planet Ocean Worldtimer has started small, offering a water resistance of up to 600 m.
That being said, their cases have grown significantly larger. While the case for the Aqua Terra Worldtimer measured 43 mm × 14.1 mm, the Planet Ocean Worldtimer has gone up to 45.5 mm in diameter (like the cases of colleagues in the collection that are water resistant up to 6 km) and 17.4 mm in height.
Nevertheless, the design of the new watches, and most importantly their inner workings, immediately bring the Aqua Terra to mind. The watches have the same engine: the automatic Omega 8938, Master Chronometer-certified by METAS, featuring a silicon balance spring, 60-hour power reserve, and a balance frequency of 3.5 Hz.
The composition of the dial has been kept the same: a map of the world in the center, laser-ablated on a titanium base coated with gray or turquoise varnish, depending on the version.
The map is encircled by a 24-hour indication, which is conveniently divided into day and night, and the hour chapter ring is decorated with a honeycomb pattern here, surrounded by the names of cities. Bienne, where Omega is based, is used for Central Europe Time instead of the more conventional city of Paris.
The picture is framed by a ceramic bezel with a laser-ablated diving scale in positive relief. Both of the novelties — Ref. 215.92.46.22.01.006 with turquoise accents and Ref. 215.92.46.22.01.007 with gray accents — have been launched in black ceramic cases.
The tone of the stitching on the rubber strap differs depending on the version. One more detail: the indexes on one model are filled with white Super-LumiNova, while the indexes on the second monochrome model are filled with gray lume.
