The first skeleton in the Ripples collection.
Speake-Marin marked the brand's 20th anniversary in 2022 by launching the Ripples Anniversary Edition. The experiment with shapes, merging a round and square shape in the Ripples case, was a success. The brand continues to develop the collection to this day. In 2024, the series welcomes its first skeleton.
The tried-and-tested case shape and ripple-like rings emanating out from the small seconds between one o'clock and two o'clock, which lend the collection its name, remain unchanged. But it's worth taking a closer look at the movement — the star of the show on this skeleton.
The novelty is equipped with an ultra-thin automatic SMA07 movement. This high-frequency movement (36,000 vph) developed by Le Cercle des Horlogers ensures a timekeeping accuracy of -/+5 seconds per day, and guarantees 52 hours of power reserve.
This power reserve in a movement comprising 182 components is generated by a tungsten micro-rotor. Great care has been devoted to the caliber's modern architecture with a row of parallel horizontal bridges. Using an ultra-thin movement in the Speake Marin Ripples Skeleton has allowed the case height to be slimmed down.
Now the case that measures 40.30 mm in diameter is just 6.30 mm in height, placing the stellar novelty in the constellation of the thinnest luxury sports watches on the market. To keep the watch lean, the small seconds plate is just 0.30 mm thick.
Another change has been made to the case: 316L steel has been replaced by stainless 904L — the favorite alloy at Rolex, which stands out for its great shine and greater wear-resistance and corrosion specs.
Yet this case only offers a water resistance of up to 50 meters, so you could probably say that it's more of a sporty watch in terms of style than a watch made to withstand active sportswear.
Nevertheless, the Speake Marin Ripples Skeleton is equipped with a screw-down winding crown. The novelty's case is paired with an integrated bracelet with three rows in the same 904L steel. Its decoration combines brushed and polished links.
