Recipe for the perfect diver's watch for summer adventures.
The Ulysse Nardin x Wempe Diver NET Signature Collection follows a recipe for the perfect summer watch. The partnership behind the watch goes back to the 1950s, when Ulysse Nardin supplied springs to the company Chronometerwerke, acquired by Herbert Wempe in 1938.
Thanks to this company, which initially focused on manufacturing marine chronometers, Gerhard D. Wempe's son branched out from retailing watches to making them.
When Wempe rebuilt their production capacities in Germany after the Second World War, Ulysse Nardin helped with the supply of watchmaking components. Their partnership continues in 2024.
The first ingredient in the recipe for this watch is the inspiration drawn from shared history. The new collaboration watch is no longer a marine chronometer, but it's still a diver's watch with an inextricable connection to water.
The partners chose the Diver NET model as their starting point. It was welcomed into the Signature Collection, which Wempe has been filling with watches made in partnership with various brands since 2022.
For instance, it already features the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Chronograph, Hublot Big Bang, and Nomos Tangente Neomatik 41 Update. The Hamburg-based watch company has made the Diver NET stand out with bright orange details.
These include the signature on the caseback with the partner's name, and the year 1846 when Ulysse Nardin was established can be found on the dial (32 years before Gerhard D. Wempe set up his small workshop to repair and sell used watches).
The second ingredient is caring for the environment. This diver's watch, which is water-resistant up to 300 m, has all the typical eco-friendly specs in Ulysse Nardin's latest collections.
The case, which measures 44 mm in diameter, is made of 95% recycled stainless steel. The sides and caseback use Nylo polyamide (60%) made from upcycled fishing nets and a carbon composite called Carbonium (40%) made using offcuts from the aircraft manufacturing process.
The third ingredient is modern technologies. The watch is equipped with a UN-118 movement with a 60-hour power reserve. You can keep track of the power reserve by checking the indication at 12 o'clock, which sits above the small seconds with an integrated date aperture.
UN-118 applies Ulysse Nardin's favorite silicon technologies: the balance spring is made of silicon while the escapement wheel and anchor are made of a silicium alloy with synthetic diamonds called DIAMonSIL. Availability of the Diver NET Signature Collection is limited to 75 pieces.
