A watch dedicated to the legendary Ocean Race.

The Ocean Race celebrates its golden anniversary this year. It's where a number of aspects converge which are not only important for the round-the-world yacht race, but also surprisingly important for the watch brand.

The Ocean Race unites a passion for conquering the oceans with modern technology and a commitment to protecting the environment. These could also be identified as key pillars for Ulysse Nardin. Built on these pillars, the manufacture has created the new Ocean Race Diver Chronograph to mark the race's 50th anniversary.

The Ocean Race's Official Timing Partner doubles up as the Time to Act Partner of the Ocean Race. Ulysse Nardin places particular emphasis on caring for the future of our planet.

Crew members competing in the yacht race cover 60,000 km, sailing through remote corners of the world rarely visited by other vessels, and they can gather information about the impact of climate change and microplastic pollution. The Ocean Race even claims to collect more data about the environment than any other sporting event in the world.

Ulysse Nardin does its best to support these kinds of initiatives, and tries to show how we can put protecting the environment into practice. The bezel of the Ocean Race Diver Chronograph is made of patented material called Carbonium, first unveiled by the brand in the 2019 on Freak X Carbonium model.

Carbonium has its roots in the aviation industry, and Ulysse Nardin was the first to apply it in watchmaking. The contents of this temperature- and weather-resistant composite material includes upcycled airplane fuselage offcuts.

The watchmakers at Ulysse Nardin have calculated that using this material has 40% less impact on the environment than the use of other carbon composites. Carbonium's appearance is of no small importance for watch owners: it doesn't look like the usual strands of carbon fiber, instead exhibiting a "marbled" pattern (unique for each of the 100 pieces in the limited edition).

The 44-mm case itself is made of black DLC-coated titanium and offers a water resistance of up to 300 meters, so the Ocean Race Diver Chronograph fully lives up to the requirements of those participating in the race. The watch is equipped with the Ulysse Nardin manufacture UN-150 movement.
